2009-08-30-Camrose to Home and Back

Today was a beautiful day, but with a 25km South wind. I drove to the office so I could ride upwind first. It was a very hard ride straight into the wind towards Dried Meat Lake. My GPS was set to mph, so it seemed even slower....

While the ride south was tough, the ride back was a breeze (literally). Once I got up the hill, my speed was almost double the speed of the first leg. I accidently shut off the GPS for a couple of k's towards the start.
Trip 39km
Total for year 400km.

2009-08-27-Bittern Lake

A quick ride to Bittern Lake and back after work. No GPS or photos. Worked hard on the way there - sort of ran into a wall on the way back even though I was with the wind. Good ride - very nice weather.
Then went to the Munsch a Bunch Kickoff meeting at Merchants.
35km (Including a ride around Bittern Lake).
Total for Year = 361km

2009-08-19-Edberg

Today, I went out with Helen, Dave, Alan and Sheralyn as they practiced for their Munch a Bunch of Miles for Literacy.

Alan and Sheralyn - switching riders....

We road in "Relay Style", shuttling the vans ahead 15km at a time. We rode the Camrose, Edberg and back "loop". This way each of us road about half the distance and had a few breaks in betwen (15k segments). It was a beautiful day with a North wind. The wind really helped with the south leg - and was good enough to die off for the north leg. A very nice ride - about 35km for me.

Total year to date = 326km.

August 16, 2009

A short ride from the store to the Highway and back. (We have been so busy with summer, and the new boat - that I haven't been on my bike for a real ride since the Tour'dAlberta.)
Nice day, but a stiff breeze from the North. It was a long ride to the highway, but very quick back - almost doubled my speed. Good to be back on the bike. Tried out my new mirror - seems to work well - but very touchy to adjust......

28km. Total this year = 281km

July 26, 2009 - Tour D'Alberta

July 26, 2009, Jim, Anita, Alan and I participated in the 100km Tour D'Alberta road bike tour.

We started in Mornville, rode through Alcomdale, Legal, Bon Acord and back to Mornville.

Jim and Anita looking fresh and ready to go!

Blue is Speed, Green is Elevation. It was a very nice day with a bit of a breeze from the North West.

Jim - Waiting in line for water in Alcomdale

Ted and Anita - Ready to go!

Anita!

All in all - lots of fun. The lasst 15km were hard - into wind and very tired. While I tried to stay hydrated, I didn't quite do it - and I started to cramp up a bit in my right leg. I was able to work it out and finished the race. Not to sore on Sunday - but a bit drained.......

Alan is a "real Biker" He finished the ride will ahead of Anita, Jim and I.
Watch for him on the Munsch a Bunsch of Miles for Literacy Ride to Valleyview and Back later this summer.

2009-07-23 - Bittern Lake - Prep for Tour D'Alberta

Alan Ford and I did a short (32km) ride to Bittern Lake and back tonight as a warmup for the 100km Tour D'Alberta ride that we plan to do Sunday!

Nice warm day (28c) with a slight wind from the North West. Headwind going, but a nice tailwind coming home! Very nice to have someone to ride with!

After the ride, I stopped in Mirror Lake Park to talk to Paul Neilsen and watch the Jeppa Train....

Total Mileage this year = 153km

July 6, Bike Ride

Nice bike ride today. I parked at the Tillicum Store and rode to Andy Johnson's and back, doing the hwy 26 loop to Camrose. 45km in all, it took me about 1 hour and 50 minutes. Seemed like I had a headwind most of the way (except Westbound on Hwy 26). The day was very pleasant in the mid 20's. No issues with the Bike!

Total for year - now 121km

Spring 2009

A slow start this year. On about May 27, I went on my first bike ride after work. I headed to Bittern Lake - but got a flat tire just before I got there. I fixed the tire, but decided I had better head home. Round trip about 30km.

I brought the bike to the Gorge with me on the spring trip, but the wind was great and I sailed 8 days of 8. The bike never made it out of the Van.

Spencer used the bike for his Triathlon (FACT Class) June 21, 2009. My rear tire was flat again. We put in a couple of tubes with the tire going flat each time. Eventually changed the tire as well - and were very careful putting in the tube. Pre-inflating the tube seemed to help. It worked fine for his race - he couldn't believe how fast it was compared to his mountain bike....

Later in the afternoon, June 21, I rode from home to Hwy 13 and back. 26km. There was a headwind going to the north so my average speed was only around 20kph. On the way back I was going 35kph most of the time, and hit 55 just before the last hill. Made it back in half the time - fun....

June 26, I road North on 833. I rode for about 1/2 hour and then turned back. Again, there was a headwind for the first part. The return took me only 15 minutes. The first half was a struggle, but the return was lots of fun. Only about 20k total - but had to get to Mike's 50th birthday party.

Total this year so far 76km.
